The Scotts Company Ltd, Howden Dyke, Goole

This industrial development for The Scotts Company Ltd involved the construction of two specialist replacement warehouse buildings at its operational Howden Dyke site.

The original contract commenced in September 2003. The comprehensive scope included site preparation, reinforced concrete foundations and floor slabs, structural steelwork, insulated roof and wall cladding, masonry, retaining structures, drainage, electrical installations and associated external works.

One of the buildings was purpose-designed as a fertiliser raw-material store. Its specialist construction incorporated chemical-resistant concrete flooring and three-metre-high prestressed concrete retaining panels, engineered to withstand the substantial lateral pressures created by bulk material storage.

Throughout the project, MLC worked collaboratively with the client to accommodate developing operational, environmental and regulatory requirements. Further additional works were successfully incorporated into the programme, which included raising the buildings above the required flood level, decontamination and removal of a redundant substation and acid pit, additional reinforced concrete ground beams, engineered fill, fire escapes, industrial roller-shutter doors, chemical-resistant coatings, drainage alterations, access ramps, retaining walls and internal partitions.

Completed in August 2004, the project demonstrates MLC’s longstanding capability in delivering technically demanding industrial facilities. It highlights our expertise in specialist groundworks, structural construction and the effective management of environmental and operational constraints, all while adapting to an evolving project brief.
